Volma Volcy is a fervent community leader with over 15 years experience working in community, labor and the non-profit world. As a non-profit executive, he has a goal of building and training 50,000 community leaders from disadvantaged communities to step into the ring of democracy and into their leadership.

My name is José Amezquita Morales and I am a first generation College student with my Bachelor's Degrees from UC Davis in Psychology and Political Science - Public Service! I have always had the goal of returning to my community with what I learned at UC Davis to help uplift and support my community in Sacramento.

I strive to boost civic engagement throughout the different historically marginalized communities in Sacramento. I believe by doing so we can create a positive and meaningful impact that can change Sacramento for the better. Higher civic engagement by all groups can lead us to create a more equitable society. I know that that work can be accomplished here with The Ring of Democracy. I am excited for the work ahead!

My name is Veronica Boulos and I’m an Outreach Specialist, focusing on youth outreach/engagement, with the Ring of Democracy! I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Political Science from Sacramento State. I immigrated from Egypt when I was seven, which is a great point of pride and motivation for my involvement in Politics.

My background in advocacy started through my work on campus. I founded the Arab Student Union and Planned Parenthood Generation Action organizations, was elected twice to our Associated Students Board of Directors, and even created a center for my SWANA Community! My advocacy extends beyond the campus where I interned in the CA Legislature, House of Representatives, and Women’s rights organizations. I’m motivated every single day by my culture, community, family, and values, and I bring that into every aspect of my work. I’m excited to bring my experience, but most importantly my passion and energy into my role with the Ring of Democracy!

I am Nia Stevens, the Communications Specialist for The Ring of Democracy! I am an HBCU alumna from Virginia State University, with degrees in Biology and Mass Communications. As a Sac native, I am proud to be able to give back to my community! It’s important to be able to talk to each other, and I’m excited to strengthen our relationship. 

I have deep roots here in Sacramento, growing up in the community I love. When I decided to attend college, I wanted more diverse experiences, and Virginia State University provided me that opportunity! I am grateful that I can bring those perspectives back home! I can't wait to get to know you better and be The Ring of Democracy's voice to you!
